[Personality] At first, all we are told about Glen Baskerville - the first name that we are shown and led to believe is even a name - is that he is a very calm individual who likes to be alone and may even prefer it above all other things. Lacie had been his driving motivation; it is always Lacie, Lacie, Lacie and, on occasion, Jack when he is there, and that is the gist of it.
However, this is not entirely true. As a matter of fact, it is later revealed that most of the Lacie, Lacie, Lacie thoughts shown in flashbacks and people's minds actually belong to his best friend, Jack Vessalius. These were not entirely Glen Baskerville's thoughts - these were not the thoughts of Oswald Baskerville, who held the title of 'Glen Baskerville'. He is shown to even wrench his hand away from Jack's own when Jack proposes the idea of the two of them getting Lacie - Oswald's beloved sister that he did indeed hold close - back and seeing her together. He is fiercely opposed to the idea and, because this scene is shown in Jack's point of view, we are never shown if that's how 'Oswald' thinks. Oswald, who is resigned to the fate of banishing Lacie to the Abyss and never seeing her again thereafter; who, despite Jack's words, may want to save and see Lacie as well. Maybe.
His duty as 'Glen Baskerville' is a constricting one, and he had already been performing some of those duties even before obtaining the fifth Chain - Jabberwock - and sending Lacie into the Abyss. He has a penchant for obtaining information of people and a nagging curiosity towards those who interest him, going so far as to dig so deeply into Jack's past that he had even been aware that Jack - despite having confided it only in Lacie all those years ago - was only half a Vessalius. Even so, he does not reveal this with judging eyes; he says this with the dispassion of a man with a curiosity about someone who not-so-clearly uneases him.
Oswald is a gatherer of information and had made it his duty to know everything about nearly everyone around him that could potentially hurt the 'Glen Baskerville' - Revis - at the time. As 'Glen Baskerville' himself, that just makes the task easier - not that he would ever complain about something being particularly hard. Work is work and his duty will always be his duty.
The reason why Jack Vessalius uneases him, why he feels particularly "inclined" to this man, lies in the fact that he cannot figure out Jack's true nature. Whatever it is, it's hiding under so much rust and dust from the past that even Jack himself doesn't know how he truly is anymore. He comments that Jack is like water, so silent and still that not even fish want to pass through it. He says that Jack "makes his skin crawl" and he isn't sure why; and, he promptly makes it his self-given career to figure the Vessalius out as Jack hangs out with Lacie and himself. Revis, however, asks him if he has feelings for Jack, and Oswald doesn't know how to answer that because he doesn't know what he means. And, while it may or may not be true, it doesn't change the fact that not knowing the true nature of anyone will ultimately put him off severely and interest him in a way that most cannot. Not knowing things is entirely too uncomfortable for him to be able to take. Taking that at face value, he is a creature of knowledge. As far as we know, he hasn't given up.
Shown to be a surprisingly kind and very gentle individual, Oswald - while he did argue from time to time with his sister - is often times quiet and can be seen with a quirk to his lips time to rare time when he is with Lacie and, by extension, Jack before he banishes Lacie to the Abyss. Contrary to what Charlotte Baskerville says about him being unapproachable, he is all to easily approached by Jack, who is his best friend. At least, that had been what he had thought back then in those times with - and without - Lacie, who loved him despite knowing that he had to kill her. In turn, he loved - and continues to love even after everything - her back, often times sticking to her when he wasn't with Revis.
Not, of course, that he completely trusted Jack at first. Oswald is hard-pressed to trust anyone who hasn't pledged their life to him as 'Glen', and Jack is a dangerous individual who slinks closer and closer to him as the days pass. Claiming that Jack 'isn't his enemy' is not a conclusion that he came to in a just one night, or in just one meeting. As he says, Jack makes his skin crawl, and getting to the point where he can say that he is not an enemy despite his Chain, Jabberwock, reacting otherwise isn't something to be taken lightly. During the Tragedy of Sablier, though, and after he witnesses Jack cutting Gilbert - a child then - down, that thing inside of Oswald that flashed and warned him that Jack is just a looking glass went off.
It remains that Oswald - whether he be with or without 'Glen' - does not trust easily, and for very good reason. He can't afford to be betrayed.
When Jack appears before him dirty and smiling, and while Oswald may cross his arms and give him his best neutral expression, judging him just the slightest bit for appearing like so, he still lets him venture further onto the property to see Lacie. He also has a love for birds of all kinds (which may or may not have something to do with his Chains), along with a sort of kinship with them even though they are free while he is not. He can never be free.
- from anything, truthfully. He is raised to become 'Glen Baskerville', drinking the blood of the 'Glen Baskerville' before him along with the blood of five different chains, that fact easily accepted and not hesitated to do. Banishing his sister, though, is something he does hesitate to and have difficulty initially doing. Oswald blames himself for Lacie having been born a Child of Misfortune, and while she asks him - requests of him - not to feel guilty about anything (about her being born like so, about killing her, about anything at all when it pertains to her), he still continually beats himself up over it even before he sends her away to the Abyss.
He can't get the image of Lacie being engulfed in Jabberwock's chains out of his head and often relives it on his way to taking food (meat) to Alice, her daughter. It's still unclear at the end of whether or not he remembers what Revis remembers about the 'experiment', as the memories, soul, and conciousness of the previous 'Glen' had been carried over to him. But, he is strict with himself - Revis calling him 'too strict' - and doesn't let himself 'indulge' in excuses. He takes what he does seriously, but even when he scolds Alice for her tomboy-ish language she calls him out on his own which he- doesn't correct at the time. Oswald and Alice - not Alyss, mind you, for she dislikes him - share a very good relationship.
Oswald has some sort of trouble showing his emotions. At worst, we see him that he can only form a frown or a straight face; at best, well, it's a straight face and lighter tones. As a child, it's noted that he would smile and laugh like other children do, but since then has learned that it's better not to. As 'Glen', his duty must be done with the best of his abilities, and this is how he chooses to do them: with a straight, entirely neutral face, for he must guard the Abyss and its doors and pass judgement on those that the title requires him to. Hence, banishing Lacie to the Abyss, just as his duty dictates. It can even go so far as to be said that he has forgotten how to smile; but, then again, it might not be as far gone as that just yet, as he's still 'Oswald'. Without killing Lacie, he cannot be 'Glen' as that is a requirement for the title.
He is still quiet, lonely Oswald who gets embarrassed when receiving compliments about the song he composed - about 'Lacie', which Jack named with Oswald's permission and Lacie gave lyrics - and shy when put out of his element. Oswald, who doesn't talk often, but will usually talk when talked to - Oswald, who gathers knowledge in his cranium like people do food in their stomach and uses it when obliging. He's blunt to an insensitive fault - a fault that had water thrown on him!
[Specialties/Abilities] He has five Chains as of his canon point: Dodo, Owl, Raven, Gryphon, and Jabberwock. All of them have the ability to open the Abyss, and all of them have the ability to banish those who have sinned or will disrupt the natural flow of the Abyss to that very same place - they would be losing these abilities as of Oswald's arrival. Oswald describes the Abyss as a sort of golden paradise (while Jack likens it to a prison, because the previous Glen's experiment [Lacie, Alyss, and Alice] was the cause of its warped state later on). Owl, with its additionally shown ability to create threads that tie to people and ensure that the person tied to Owl can (and will) always be found (and it's a thread that only Oswald himself is able to see); Dodo, with its main ability being to create illusions that look and feel real, along with a good amount of power when concentrated can create small craters upon impact - and, it can use its feathers as a weapon; Gryphon, hinted to have phenominal power by itself; Raven, with its fire that can even hurt the 'immortal' Baskerville who, when exposed to these blue flames for too long, will eventually die - and it shares a power with Dodo: the power to create illusions. However, it is weaker than Dodo's power over illusions, even if menacing eyes and the ability to manipulate darkness is something quite formidable in itself. It can also teleport and seal other Chains - the former power, though, will cause strain on the user.
That leaves Oswald's precious Jabberwock, which - by far - is shown the most with him. It has a tendency to appear on its own whenever it senses that Oswald may be in danger (over-protective, much?), as shown when Oz first meets him as 'Glen Baskerville'. He is able to calm his Chain, telling the bird that 'Jack is not his enemy'; he does, however, recognize Oz as Oz the B-Rabbit after that, and not as Jack. Jabberwock can fly and is well able to carry people on its back while doing so, and use its fangs and talons to fight with - what one also needs to watch out for is when it is charging up its energy beam that has been shown to be able to disintergrate everything it touches in its path.
Additionally, it's worth noting that he's very proficient with a sword and can move inhumanly fast (godspeed, that; though it helps that he's not really human, instead more like a Chain). And, after a hundred year reign over things, his body will start to deteriorate; but, we don't get to see this as he gets killed by Jack Vessalius. Still, he doesn't die as 'easily' as most, and like the rest of the Baskervilles can regenerate extremely quickly. A fatal wound on anyone else would be as fatal to him - and, he does not age, because of his contracts.
Surprisingly enough, he seems to be able to see through people very well; he's shown looking at Jack more than once when in actuality it's him observing and looking inside of Jack. He correctly sees Jack better than anyone else - identifies that he's like water - and it's something he tries to do as much as he can. Whether it be because he really does get uneasy when he can't see someone's true nature or because he knows that it gives Jack a sense of (fear) being in a way, it'll never be said. Can't have people around him that want to hurt him and Lacie (and Jack, ), after all!
[Affection] none are disallowed COME AT ME BRO just don't expect him to return anything. even lacie doesn't get hugs back when she suddenly pulls a sappy ass CLAMP-move. people and hugging him, seriously )8 does he look like the hug type of guy??? -- don't answer that nevermind. B|
[Fighting] yup and yup, though i'll forewarn that he cannot be killed by anything other than a chain and even then he's got five of those puppies and he ain't afraid to use them! /o/ he's also got skills on his own, and can heal just about any wound on himself, so. yeah. regeneration ftwww.
[Other Permissions] tread carefully; telepaths can read his mind but don't expect to get there easily, or to get there and have it immediately go to his thoughts. he has more than one person's consciousness in there, unfortunately. fourth wall breakers are allowed; if it gets to the point where i'm uncomfortable with what's revealed to him (lol not likely), i'll pm/im.
[Other Facts] can i start making head jokes yet? how about jack jokes? no? DAMN IT.
